Tema, Feb.20, GNA — Young and enterprising Michael Nyarko returned an impressive net score of 64 to win this year’s Heritage World Cup Ghana Qualifiers First Round played at the Celebrity Golf Course at Sakumono, near Tema on Saturday.
Nyarko who played a gross score of 77 with a handicap of seven, received a round trip ticket to Dubai as his prize.
He would be joined by other 10 low handicappers to compete in the Second Round of the event scheduled for the Achimota Golf Course in Accra from March 26-27 for the Mauritius competition which would be held in July, this year.
Nyarko was followed by Enoch Akakpovi with a net score of 65 while Francis Andoh placed third with 68 net.
In the Group ‘B’ segment, Nana Kofi Asare came first with 68 net, Li Wang took the second position with 71 net while James Otoo took the third position with 72 net.
Veteran golfer, Grace Afriyie emerged the Ladies Champion with 73 net, beating Catherine Fabbi on count-back after they had both returned the same net score.
Hawa Baitoo won the Ladies Group ‘B’ category with 67 net, while Daisy Annor Abu placed second with 72 net, beating Liping Wang on count-back.
The one-day 18 Hole event, which attracted 120 golfers was sponsored by Danco Impex Limited, Goil Ghana Limited, Alisa Hotel, Equity Insurance Company Limited, Silver Star Auto Limited and Emirates Airlines.
Mr Isaac Aninakwah, Executive Director of Aro Golf Tours commended the participants for their sportsmanship exhibited throughout the games.
He expressed the hope that the participants would continue to exhibit the same in the remaining two qualifiers scheduled for Achimota and Kumasi respectively.
