Kiev, Feb 27, (dpa/GNA) – The Ukrainian armed forces face attacks by the Russian army “from all directions” in several locations, according to reports early Sunday.
The Russian military onslaught was being met with “determined resistance,” the Ukrainian army said in a statement. According to this account, Ukrainian forces repelled a Russian attack near Kharkiv.
In the course of heavy fighting around Kharkiv, a gas pipeline burst into flames after an explosion on Sunday night.
According to the Ukrainian agency UNIAN, the line was blown up by Russian troops. This could not be independently verified.
According to media reports, a refinery was hit by rockets and set on fire in a suburb of Kiev.
And in Kherson in the south, Russian units reportedly succeeded in advancing after bitter fighting.
Heavy fighting was also said to be raging in the Luhansk region, and on the outskirts of the capital Kiev.
The Kyiv Independent quoted the mayor of Vasylkiv, south of Kiev, as saying the city and airfield has sustained heavy shelling from ballistic missiles.
