GTA celebrates chocolate day with Muslims at Sokode-Etoe

Sokode-Etoe (V/R), Feb. 12, GNA – The Volta Regional Directorate of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has commemorated this year’s Chocolate Day with a donation to the Muslim community at Sokode-Etoe in the Ho Municipality.

The team led by Alhaji Sulemana Ahmed Amadu, Principal Standard Quality Assurance Officer of the Authority presented the item to the community during their Friday’s prayer at the central mosque.

Mr Amadu said chocolate has a lot of nutritional value for the body and urged people to continue to consume the products to build their immune system.

He told Ghana News Agency (GNA) the Day was instituted to create awareness on the need for the citizens to patronise Ghanaian chocolate and other cocoa products to boost domestic tourism.

The Officer said the tourism industry was hit hard by the pandemic and that to revamp the sector, there was a drive on domestic tourism, hence, citizens should patronise the product to help develop the economy.

He said the Authority would be forming “Tourist Clubs” in Churches and Mosques to create awareness about the various beautiful tour sites in the Region and to encourage the populace to visit them.

Mr Amadu said when citizens begin to visit beautiful sceneries and places of attraction, it would help generate more revenue for the government for development activities.

Mr Mohammed Arimiyao, on behalf of the Imam for the Central Mosque, Alhaji Sulemana Cisse, expressed gratitude to the Authority for the gesture and urged Ghanaians to consume more chocolate and other cocoa products.

‘We know from history that Valentine’s Day is love but this love has been grossly misunderstood and misinterpreted to some extent that it has become a day that people experience their first sexual intercourse, which we think that is not in the best interest of the nation,’ he said.

Mr Sulemana described the replacement of the day with the celebration of the chocolate day as ‘excellent’ and called on all to embrace it to promote made in Ghana goods.
