Wamfie, (B/R), Feb. 01, GNA-The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has bestowed honorary membership on Mr Emmanuel Kofi Agyeman, the Dormaa East District Chief Executive, and called on Journalists to adopt and put a spotlight on the district’s development.
“This is not a license to discriminate against other districts in terms of media attention, but a call to strike a strategic balance in the work of the media”, Mr Roland Affail Monney, the President of the GJA who made the call stated.
Speaking at a ceremony held at Wamfie, the District capital of the Bono Region to honour the DCE, Mr Monney said the DCE’s exceptional leadership skills and relationship with the media in the region in particular, and the nation by extension remained unparalleled worthy of emulation.
“Our radar has been on you since you assumed office as the representative of the President of the Republic in this district. All your words and deeds have not escaped our microscopic scrutiny and the verdict, in a familiar parlance is: so far, so very good”.
“Mr Agyeman pursues his political mission with singularity of purpose to accelerate the development of the district, in so doing, he gives up ownership of himself in the service of the people”.
“He joins a select few of distinguished likes including; the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare to wear this prestigious tag.
“We recall that about four years ago, the GJA identified the distinctive leadership qualities of Dr Dampare, headlined, of course, by his exceptional relationship with the media and we accordingly honoured him. His appointment as the current IGP simply vindicated the rectitude of the GJA’s progressive action”, Mr Monney explained.
The GJA President commended the DCE for spearheading the establishment of a website for the Assembly, saying in this era of right to information guaranteed under Article 21(1) of the Constitution and the RTI Law, Act 989 of 2019, denying same to the citizens is a violation of the worst variant.
The establishment of the website adds meaning to the constitutional right and sovereign entitlement of the citizens to receive information on a regular basis, he said.
“It is therefore imperative for Journalists in the region to adopt the Dormaa East District as pilot project, and drive its development agenda to the hilt”, he said.
Mr Agyeman expressed appreciation to the GJA, and its President in particular, and promised to facilitate active engagement with the media to push the development of the district forward.
