EU leaders to agree new Russia sanctions at emergency summit

Brussels, Feb 24, (dpa/GNA) – EU leaders are due to agree in principle on further sanctions against Russia on Thursday, following its attack on Ukraine, according to a joint statement from member states.

The statement said leaders are to discuss Russia’s “blatant aggression” towards Ukraine at their emergency summit and decide on new measures to impose “massive and severe consequences” on Moscow.

The sanctions will take effect once they are published in the EU’s Official Journal.
