Torve (VR), Feb. 1, GNA – The Akatsi South Municipal Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has begun a Fire Safety Education campaign within selected communities in the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region.
It is focused on stepping up fire safety awareness among community members in those areas to curb the menace.
The move would also educate community members on basic fire safety measures and to enlighten the public on the activities of the Service.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) Simon Wardie, the Akatsi South Municipal Commander of the GNFS, hinted more communities would be visited by his outfit to sensitise the populace on basic fire safety practices and fire prevention measures as the dry season intensified in the area.
He made the disclosure to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after an encounter with officers of the Service and some residents of Torve Electoral Area at Torve on Friday.
Mr Wardie also said the encounter was a similar exercise undertaken by the Service in 2021 during which some schools and institutions were taken through some basic fire-fighting and prevention tips.
“We are extending this exercise to Avenorpeme, Xavi, Atidzive and other communities under my jurisdiction so we can all stay safe during this dry season,” he added.
Mr Wardie added the GNFS had of late been proactive and moved away from the fire-fighting approach to fire safety and prevention.
The participants, after the encounter, commended the Service for the training.
Some community elders, unit committee members, and residents of Torve participated in the programme.
Key among them were Togbui Anatsi V, chief of Torve, and Mr Thomas Atidepe, the Assembly member for the area.
