Third Eye Care offers GNA staff free eye care services

Tema, Jan. 6, GNA – Third Eye Care and Vision Centre Limited will offer free eye care service to Ghana News Agency staff across the country as part of broader efforts to improve the visual efficiency of staff in the discharge of their duties.

The free eye care services would cover, free eye examination, discount on all lenses, frames, as well as diagnostic tests for one year, Dr Kwame Oben-Nyarko Managing Director of Third Eye Care stated at the launch of Ghana News Agency-Tema Regional Office and the Ghana Optometric Association flagship initiative “GNA-GOA: My Eye! My Vision!

The initiative is a collaborative public education advocacy campaign to promote the need for people to access eye care and also to draw attention to vision health.

The GNA-GOA: My Eyes! My Vision! The initiative also seeks to challenge the public and policymakers to focus on vision as a health issue, which forms a critical component of mankind’s wellbeing but is often neglected.

Dr Oben-Nyarko noted: “in appreciation for the collaboration between the Ghana Optometric Association and Ghana News Agency –Tema Regional Office, Third Eye Care and Vision Center offers the services to the agency’s staff across the country”.

Third Eye Care which is an optometry and ophthalmology entity also provides specialized eye diagnostic tests including optical coherence tomography, fundus photography, visual fields testing, pachymetry, and anterior chamber angle measurements.

The GNA-GOA My Eyes! My Vision initiative seeks to challenge the public and policymakers to focus on vision as a health issue, which forms a critical component of mankind’s wellbeing but is often neglected.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dr Remi Ninkpe, National President of the Ghana Optometric Association; Mr Albert Kofi Owusu, GNA General Manager; Mr Francis Ameyibor, GNA-Tema Regional Manager, Dr Obeng-Nyarko, Dr. Alfred Gardemor, GOA Public Relations Officer jointly perform the official launch.

The launch was chaired by Reverend Emmanuel Kwesi Ofori, Minister in Charge Central Assemblies of God Church, Tema Community Four who is also a Government Appointee, Tema Metropolitan Assembly.

DSP/Dr Ninkpe described the My Eyes! My Vision campaign as a timely intervention to promote visual health in Ghana centering on various topics to be rolled out in the year 2022.

He said the importance of eye health cannot be overemphasized, “some say the eyes are the windows to the soul. Some also say that next to death, what they fear most is losing their eyesight.

Mr Kofi Owusu commended the Ghana Optometric Association for the collaboration with the GNA-Tema Regional Office for the “My Eyes! My Vision! Campaign.

He also applauded the Third Eye Care and Vision Centre for the free eye examination package.

Mr Kofi Owusu also advised journalists to use their profession to impact society for accelerated national development; “your position as journalists is an important opportunity and platform to impact positively on society through your writings”.

The GNA General Manager said, “journalism has offered you the opportunity to impact on your community and country, grab it and make the best out of it, speak for the vulnerable, let society benefit from your profession”.

Mr Ameyibor, explained that as part of “My Eyes! My Vision! campaign Resources Person from the Ghana Optometric Association would consistently use the Ghana News Agency, Tema Regional Office platform to speak on the specific topic after which a series of news stories would be developed and disseminated for the period.

“We are combining the forces of our professional calling as Optometric Physicians and Communication Experts to reach out to the public with a well-coordinated message”.

Mr Ameyibor said the collaboration would serve as a major platform to educate the public on vision health and also serves as a critical stage for the association to reach out to the world.
