Takoradi, Jan. 25, GNA – Mr Benjamin Acquah, the Western Regional Manager of the Ghana Red Cross Society, says it is time Ghana developed an integrated National Emergency recovery plan that takes into consideration environmental, disaster risk and resettlement mechanisms.
This Integrated Emergency Response must also be consistent with national planning systems.
Mr Acquah told the Ghana News Agency after the society, together with its Swiss counterparts, mounted tents to house displaced Appiatse residents after last Thursday explosion disaster.
He said, “I was happy my headquarters responded rapidly to the request made and even went further to detail two staffs to provide technical support and how the District Disaster Response Team (DDRT) from Prestea and Tarkwa moved in to provide first Aid and assisted in the evacuation exercise.”
The Ghana Red Cross Society has once again demonstrated its humanitarian gesture by providing tents that would provide temporary shelter for the disaster victims
In all, about 140 victims of the disaster will be relocated from the Parish Hall of the St Michael Catholic Church to a new site, where tents had been made available by the Ghana Red Cross Society.
“The Ghana Red Cross is ready and has the requisite expertise to assist with the post-disaster assessment and action plans to ensure risk mitigation as well as protect the people and the entire area from future occurrence,” he added
The explosion devastated the entire community of Appiatse, near Bogoso, in the Western Region on 20, January 2022.
