Agavedzi (VR), Jan 28, GNA – The Volta Regional Office of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) has donated some relief items to victims of the tidal storm in the Ketu South Municipality.
The items, including 80 bags of 25kg rice, 33 cartons of cooking oil and 11 cartons of bar soap, were given to Assembly members for the three Electoral Areas for onward distribution to the victims.
A storm surge on the first weekend of November 2021 flooded homes at Agavedzi, Salakope, Amutinu and Adina, affecting hundreds of people from about 140 households.
Mrs Anthoinette Sekye, Accountant at NLA Ho Office, during the presentation of the items at Agavedzi, said the Authority in the region was moved by the cries of the victims who had been ravaged by the sea and had come to support them with the little the office could procure.
She said the support was to provide some form of relief to the people more than two months after the disaster, was to demonstrate NLA’s commitment to responding to the needs of the people.
Mr Eben Assah, Assembly Member for Agavedzi Electoral area, on behalf of the victims, thanked the NLA for the show of kindness, saying the items would help cater for some needs of the people.
Mr Maxwell Koffie Lugudor, Municipal Chief Executive for Ketu South, was grateful to the NLA for reaching out to the people in their times of need.
He appealed to the people to stay strong and exercise patience because the government cared about their plight and was working on a short-term solution for their well-being while considering scientific and engineering processes to protect the coastline to ensure a lasting solution to the problem of tidal waves destruction.
