Tamale, Jan 1, GNA— The National Lotteries Authority (NLA) has donated assorted food items to the Tamale Children’s Home as part of efforts to put smiles on the faces of the inmates (children) this festive season.
The items included bags of rice, sugar, beans, cartons of frozen chicken and fish, tin tomatoes, packs of milk, boxes of cooking oil and liquid soap.
As part of its support, the NLA has also begun painting the dormitory of the Tamale Children’s Home to put it in good shape and will also provide tables and chairs for the use of the children in the home.
Mr Senney Quacoo Buame, Northern Regional Accountant of NLA, who led his colleagues to present the items on behalf of the NLA, to the authorities of the Tamale Children’s Home in Tamale on Friday, December 31, 2021, said it formed part of the NLA’s efforts to extend support to the less privileged in society.
Mr Buame spoke highly of the new Director-General of the NLA for initiating the donation, saying “Though some several years ago, the Authority used to extend its arms to some less privileged persons in society, there has never been this colossal demonstration of love across the entire nation as we witnessed this year (2021).”
The new Director-General has introduced a Unit at NLA christened Good Causes Foundation dedicated to sharing directly some of the wealth of the Authority with society as part of its corporate social responsibility.
He said, “This demonstration of love towards humanity started with the staff since the arrival of the Director-General, Mr Samuel Awuku. He started this gesture through the introduction of super welfare system for workers.”
He said, “For more than 12 years, the general staff of NLA never enjoyed any form of promotion from one step to the other. Even though Mr Awuku happened to be the youngest Director-General of NLA, he, without any hesitation, promoted all deserving staff by 12 steps on the promotional ladder to cover for the lost years without promotion.”
He added that “He also ensured that bonus and increased Christmas packages were given to the staff. Under his good leadership, all divisions that existed within both the Executive Management members and entire staff before his arrival, have been completely obliterated.”
Mr Buame was hopeful that the items would be put to good use for the benefit of the children in the home.
Madam Janet Boahemaa Ansu, Manageress of the Tamale Children’s Home, who received the items, expressed gratitude to the NLA for the gesture, saying it had come at the right time to support the needs of the children.
Madam Ansu said presently, there were 40 children in the home.
