Sunyani, Jan. 01, GNA – Thirteen new births, comprising seven boys and six girls, were recorded in three major hospitals in the Sunyani Municipality on New Year, January 1, 2022.
The regional hospital in Sunyani recorded seven babies, including four boys and three girls, four boys at the Sunyani Municipal and three girls at the Seventh Day Adventists Hospital.
Though some of the babies were delivered through Ceasarean Sections (CS), midwives in charge of the facilities told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) the babies and their mothers were all healthy.
Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Bono Regional Minister, earlier visited and interacted with health workers and the nursing mothers at the hospitals and distributed quantities of baby diapers and pampers for the upkeep of the new-borns.
She lauded the spirit of team work among the medical doctors, paramedics, nurses and the entire health workers at the hospitals and asked them to build good relationships with the patients to aid their healing processes.
The Regional Minister commended the health workers for their sacrificial services during the yuletide and expressed the hope deserving health workers would be honoured to motivate others.
Mad Owusu-Banahene told the health workers the hospitals were part of Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) and advised, particularly, the heads of the various units to feel free and visit the RCC at any time, saying “our doors are always open for you to channel your grievances and challenges for redress”.

At the regional hospital, Ms Susan Tiwaa, Midwife in-charge, appealed for more incubators for the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU), saying the facility required four additional incubators.
She said five of the babies were delivered through CS, and added one of them who had jaundice was responding well at the NICU.
Ms Tiwaa advised nursing mothers who delivered through the CS to report any health complication to the hospital as soon as possible to protect themselves and their babies.
Dr Kwadwo Owiredu, a health officer at the maternity ward, expressed appreciation to the Regional Minister for the visit and entreated her to visit the facility regularly.
The health workers had isolated one of the newborn mothers who had tested COVID-19 positive, and a sickle cell patient from her baby who was also in good condition at the hospital’s NICU.
