Kadjebi joins CLOGSAG strike

Kadjebi (O/R), Jan20, GNA – Members of Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region have joined their colleagues in the nationwide CLOGSAG strike.

CLOGSAG per letter dated December 22, 2021 issued a notice of an intended nationwide strike from January 20, 2022 over poor conditions of service.

A visit by Ghana News Agency (GNA) to the offices of Births and Deaths Registry, Non-Formal Education Division, Department of Food and Agriculture, Environmental Heath and the Kadjebi District Assembly between the hours of 830 and 900 the offices were closed with no staff present.

Mr. Emmanuel Doe, the Kadjebi District Chairman of CLOGSAG, in an interview with GNA said Article 94 clause 3 (b) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana debarred Civil Servants inclusive of the Local Government Staff from participating in active political activities in Ghana.

He said members of the Police Service, Prison Service, Judicial Service, Legal Service, among others, who also fell under Article 94 clause (b) were taken off the Single Spine Salary structure leaving Civil and Local Government staff alone there.

He said since they were banned from politics, then the Government should take them off the Single Spine Salary structure like other colleagues under the same group under the Article 94 (3b) of the 1992 Constitution.

Mr. Doe said the Civil and Local Government staffs were the policy formulators and implementers, but government over the years had taken them for granted. He said negotiation for better Conditions of Service for Staff of the Local Government Service and Civil Service with government started in 2019, but no head-way, so “it is time to strike”.

The CLOGSAG Chairman said they deserved better since “what is good for the goose is good for the gander”.

Ms. Valeria Emefa Doh, the District CLOGSAG Secretary in a letter directed all CLOGSAG members “to stay away from office until further notice.”

She said the directive was based on an emergency Regional CLOGSAG meeting held at Dambai on 19th January, 2022 to deliberate on the nationwide strike.
