Ekumfi Twa (C/R), Jan. 25, GNA – Friends of Humanity Foundation (FHF), an Accra based not-for-profit entity, at the weekend donated items worth GHC 70,000 to more than 500 people in five communities in the Ekumfi district of the Central Region.
The items include rice, canned tuna flakes, cooking oil, tomato paste, fruit drinks, new and old clothing and play items.
The communities are Ekumfi Twa, Ekumfi Dunkua, Ekumfi Abortse, Ekumfi Abuakwa and Ekumfi Atwa.
Pastor Richard Hebrew Aburam, a member of FHF, speaking at the ceremony, said the less privileged in society needed assistance to lead meaningful lives.
He said this could be done by providing them with social amenities, the needed infrastructure and quality education.
Pastor Aburam said the Foundation would continue with its humanitarian activities, adding that poverty alleviation should be a shared responsibility.
He urged Christians, especially, the rich in society to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ to the poor by extending a helping hand to them.
Mrs Abigail Abena Acheampong, Founder of FHF, noted that an act of kindness could change the life of someone for the better forever.
She said FHF had plans to expand to include training of people in deprived areas to enable them to earn a living and appealed for financial and logistic support to reach more areas.
Mrs Acheampong said the items were acquired with the resources of members of the Foundation and friends.
Mr Boutrous K.S. Arthur, Assemblyman for the area, on behalf of the people, expressed gratitude to the Foundation for the gesture.
He asked them to assist the youth to attain self-sufficiency.
The Assemblyman appealed to the Foundation to help the people renovate the dilapidated classroom blocks in the communities.
Members of the communities reciprocated the gesture of the visitors by entertaining them with cultural dances.
