Filipino-Ghanaian songstress Marie wants to be a trendsetter in Afro-fusion

Accra, Jan. 04, GNA – Talented female songstress Martenni Marie is poised in making a name in the Afro-fusion music genre space especially in Ghana where little is known about her, though she traces her roots to the West Africa country.

Having been raised in the United States to a Filipino mother and Ghanaian father, Marie wants to reconnect with her roots by fusing Afro-pop, Afrobeats, and RnB, something she described as Afro-fusion, therefore showcasing her versatility in various genres.

“Music is a unique experience for me and I want to use my music to inspire the younger generation especially for black people in Africa to explore their roots in diverse ways just like I am doing with music.

“I have struggled with my identity over the past years but ever since I started coming to Ghana, I feel love around me and I want to explore more especially its music culture,” she told GNA Entertainment.

Marie who was the first runner up in Miss Philippines 2014 said she had always wanted to be a musician despite venturing into modeling in her teen years.

When asked about who her favourite Ghanaian musician was, Marie said: “The first Ghanaian song I came across was by Kidi titled “Say You Love” and I happen to love his style of music. I would love to feature him someday as well as the likes of Black Sherif, Sarkodie, King Promise and a host of other musicians.”

She also revealed that her upcoming album would have multiple genres including Afrobeats, RnB, Dancehall music, among others, featuring some top Ghanaian artistes as she looks to make her music go global.

Marie is currently promoting her recent single titled “Mo”, produced by Soldidoio, a song she described as a mix of Afrobeats and RnB.
