Comoros makes it to the Round of 16 stage after winning only one game

Kumasi, Jan.21, GNA- Comoros Island has qualified for the Round of 16 stage at the ongoing TotalEnergies African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2021 in Cameroon after defeating the Black Stars of Ghana by 3-2 on Tuesday.

The Coelacanths of Comoro’s sealed their place after a compact win at the Garoua Roumde Ajia Stadium against the Black Stars of Ghana.

Ghana’s Group C opponent Comoros Island have become the final team to take one of the four slots for best third placed sides for the knock-out stage of the ongoing African Cup of Nations.

This was after Ivory Coast lashed defending Champions Algeria 3-1 in the final Group E game played on Thursday at the Japoma Stadium in Douala Cameroon.

This is the First Appearance for the Comoros team to participate in the African Cup of Nations.

Comoros lost their first two games against Gabon and Morocco, but returned charged and pushed up to win conversely against four times champions Black Stars of Ghana at Garoua, to finish as one of the third best teams of Group C with just three points.

Comoros was ranked 132 in the world before they appeared in the AFCON tournament which they have never won a game in any competitive match.

The Coelacanth’s of Comoros are now through to the Round of 16 stage with just three points, which they will face the host Nation Cameroon at the knock-out stage on Monday, 24 January.
