Central Tongu DCE appeals to residents to report suspicious activities

Adidome (VR), Jan. 19, GNA – Mr Thomas Moore Zonyrah, the District Chief Executive of Central Tongu in the Volta Region, says the Assembly has sensitised community members to report suspicious activities of individuals or groups for swift action.

He said the large expanse of land available in the District had become attractive to the Fulani Herdsmen.

“I wish to report that the District is relatively calm and peaceful. However, as a result of new arrivals of these herders, it has become a source of worry and apprehension to most people in the District, especially farmers.”

Mr Zonyra said this on Wednesday during a meeting of Assembly staff and Heads of Departments and other Agencies at the Central Tongu old district Assembly hall.

The meeting forms part of a Regional tour by Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister to the various Municipal and District Assemblies in the region.

The tour is aimed at addressing weak values system and non-adherence to service delivery standards to enhance performance in 2022.

Mr Zonyra said a joint District Security Council of Central Tongu and North Tongu were currently working on some herders, who had settled at Benkope between Central and North Tongu Districts.

“It is heart-warming to note that, you have made time to visit the district.

We are very grateful as your visit will not only urge us to put in our utmost best at all times but also put us on our toes to improve upon service delivery to the people of Central Tongu District,” he said.

He also outlined some developmental projects the Assembly had executed across the district after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government assumed power.

Among the projects executed were the construction of 1 No. 6 Unit Classroom Block at Awakpedome, Completion of Mafi–Dove Health Post at Mafi Dove, construction of 1 No. 3 Unit Classroom Block at Akyemfo, construction of 1 No. 3 Unit Classroom Block at Mafi–Srekpe, construction of 1 No. 3 Unit Classroom Block at Avedo, construction of CHPS Compound at Mafi-Anfoe,

Completion of 26 No. Market Shed at Mafi-Kumase Type A, completion of 26 No. Market Shed at Mafi-Kumase Type B, construction of 1No. 3 bedrooms Self contain Nurses Quarters at Kpogadzi and several others.

Under Planting for Food and Jobs, a flagship programme of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, Mr Zonyra said the district had registered some beneficiaries.

“The programme has been largely successful in the year 2021 due to the use of improved subsidised fertilisers and chemicals made available to farmers.”

He also touched on other existing government programmes and projects such as Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) and Rearing for Food and Jobs.

He gave the assurance that the district would work towards improvement in the lives of the people of the Central Tongu District.

On his part, Dr Letsa charged all staff and workers of the Assembly to live up to the task for a better future of “our beloved region.”

The Regional Minister cut the sod for the commencement of an ultra-modern rice mill factory in Adidome and inspected some farms in the area.

The first stage of the tour, which would last for three days, would be extended to North Tongu, South Tongu, Akatsi South, Akatsi North, Ketu North and South, Keta and Anloga District Assembly.

All the 18 Municipal and District Assemblies would be visited by the Regional Minister and his team.
