Akatsi (VR), Jan. 25, GNA – Members of the College of Education Teachers Association of Ghana CETAG, Akatsi College of Education chapter, have returned to work after a strike action, which commenced from Thursday, January 6.
The resumption follows a unanimous decision by the National Council of the Association during an emergency meeting on Monday, January 17, leading to the suspension of the strike action after validating the January salaries of members, implementation, as well as payment of 2017-2020 Conditions of Service (CoS).
A visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) reporter to the campus on Tuesday saw members of CETAG engaged in some academic activities.
Mr Ismael Edem Dorwu, the Akatsico branch Chairman of CETAG, told the GNA that all the 52 members of CETAG in Akatsico had resumed work.
He expressed optimism that issues of the conditions of service of members would be resolved by the government.
In a press statement, the Association said teaching would be restored in all the 46 public colleges of education from Tuesday, January 25.”
“All arrears must be paid fully in February by the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD),” the statement said.
The Association also entreated the Fair Wages and Salary Commission to initiate the needed steps to re-engage the leadership of CETAG to conclude the negotiations of the 2021 CoS before the end of February 2022.
“The National Council would like to take this opportunity to express its gratitude to all CETAG members for their solidarity and collegial spirit throughout the period,” it added.
The GNA also observed some academic activities were ongoing during the visit, including orientation for third-year students.
