Ahanta West Municipality observes My First Day at School

Agona Nkwanta (WR), Jan 18, GNA – The Ahanta West Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has marked “My First Day at School” with a call on teachers to offer their best towards the provision of quality education.

“My First Day at School” is an annual ceremony held to officially welcome pupils who are going to school for the first time or those who have graduated from nursery to the primary level to begin a new academic year.

Madam Gina Owusu Acheampong, Municipal Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the GES, led a team from the Directorate to visit some selected schools in the Municipality to mark the day.

The team visited the Al-Badahil Islamic School, Apemanim MA Basic School and the Agona MA Basic School.

Madam Acheampong advised the pupils to cultivate the habit of handwashing and keep the environment clean to prevent them from contracting infectious diseases.

She also admonished the pupils to take their studies seriously and be of good behaviour to become responsible adults.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), she explained that this year’s observation was devoid of the usual funfair and distribution of teaching and learning materials (TLMs) due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

She said the Directorate, in compliance with a release issued by GES, encouraged staff to visit their adopted schools to welcome the pupils.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive of the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly (AWMA), Mr John Agyare, pledged his unflinching support for Schools in the municipality.

He said the Assembly would focus on providing classrooms to communities without good school infrastructure and particularly ensure that abandoned school infrastructure was completed.

He pledged to provide furniture to schools to reduce the deficit, which he said, was still huge as some of the school children sat on the floor to write.

Mr Agyare said he would collaborate with the Education Directorate and all other stakeholders to address the challenges and to improve on the standards of education in the Municipality.
