Accra, Dec. 9, GNA – Mr Kofi Ofori, the Ablekuma North Municipal Chief Executive, has advised the youth to venture into rearing of rabbit, poultry farming and backyard gardening as a business to earn a living.
He said with the introduction of the Planting for Food and Jobs, and the modernization of agriculture, the public should not rely on large tracts of land for farming purposes, as they could resort to backyard gardening to supplement food supply and create jobs for themselves and others.
Mr Ofori gave the advice during the 37th National Farmers’ Day at Kwashieman in Accra on the theme: “Planting for Food and Jobs – Consolidating Food systems in Ghana.”
He gave the assurance that the agricultural technical officers of the Assembly would share their expertise with the farmers to improve on their production.
Mr Ofori said the Assembly was making conscious efforts to reduce waste in the food supply chain during transportation and marketing adding that waste and post-harvest loses were drain on agriculture productivity and must be reversed.
Mr Hoppeson Blewu, the Ablekuma North Municipal Director of Agriculture, ureged the youth to venture into agriculture because it had enormous advantages.
Mr Daniel Nii Boye Laryea was adjudged the Overall Best Farmer of the Municipality.
