Volta records 18 new cases of COVID-19

Ho, Dec. 30, GNA- Data from the Volta Regional Health Directorate has shown that the region has recorded 18 new cases of coronavirus as of December 28, this year.

This brings to 5,594 cumulative cases recorded in the Region with 5,157 detected through general surveillance and 437 through enhanced contact tracing.

Dr Senanu Kwesi Djokoto, Deputy Volta Regional Director of Health, In Charge of Public Health, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency, said the Region currently had three critical and severe cases respectively, and 157 mild cases.

He said the genetic sequencing test was yet to be concluded on the newly detected cases “so we cannot tell for sure, there is omicron, but it cannot be ruled out.”

Dr Djokoto urged all and sundry to adhere to the safety protocols as the virus was still in existence.

The Deputy Health Director said the Directorate was intensifying its vaccine campaign to get those eligible to be inoculated.

He called on all to support the fight against the disease and prevent the fourth wave from hitting the country and sending it under lockdown.
