Sekondi, Dec. 25, GNA – The Takoradi Central Church of Christ, has donated medicines, food items, and assorted drinks worth 60, 000 cedis to the inmates and officers of the Sekondi Central Prisons.
Their annual benevolence is premised on Jesus’ saying that: “when I was in prison, you didn’t come to look for and when I was hungry, you didn’t feed”.
Dr Daniel Owusu Asiamah Missionary and Head Preacher of the Central Church said Christianity did not only allow for taking from society but also giving back particularly to the needy and weary and restoring hope to the worrying thus the prison inmates.
The head Preacher, together with other leaders of the Church also had a moment to exhort the inmates with the word of God after meeting their physical needs.
Dr Asiamah noted that Joseph, Jeremiah, and John the Baptist were all in Prison though innocent and acknowledged that while some inmates were innocent, others might be guilty of a crime, “no matter what, I entreat you to pick up lessons from here and be a better version of yourselves when you are finally released”.
He also promised to raise funds to ensure that petty offenders who are serving jail sentences because they were not able to pay their fines were released.
“We will also engage the Prison authority on this issue and see how best as a church, we can pay some of these fines to get you your freedom but the most important thing is to abstain from sin”.
Superintendent Samuel Amarfio, the Operations Director while appreciating the gesture called on corporate Ghana to support with detergents, nose masks, soaps among other daily needs to alleviate their day-to-day administrative challenges.
