Accra, Dec. 6, GNA – The Ministry of Youth and Sports says that they have put in place measures to facilitate the departure of Ghana’s men Amputee football team back to Ghana.
The National Amputee after winning the Cup of African Nations for Amputee Football have struggled with their departure back home as they are currently in Tanzania.
But a statement issued by the Public Relations Unit of the Youth and Sports said the team failed to inform them with regard to their participation in the tournament but would, however, facilitate their departure back home.
“The attention of the Ministry of Youth and Sports has been drawn to a video circulating on
social media about the plight of Ghana’s Amputee Men’s Football Team in Tanzania, following their participation and victory in the African Amputee Football Cup of Nations.
“The Ministry would first like to congratulate the team for their gallant efforts on emerging winners of the competition; and for making Ghana proud despite their uniquely stated challenges.
“As a matter of urgency, the Minister of Youth and Sports has contacted the leader of the team to facilitate their departure to Ghana.
“For the records, the Ghana Amputee Football Association failed to inform the Ministry about the tournament in Tanzania, for the necessary support and facilitation to be extended to the team,” the statement said.
It also urged all sports federations to follow due procedure and inform the Ministry about their participation in international tournaments for consideration and support.
The statement added that the Sports Ministry will look to normalize the operations of the Amputee federation which has been hit with leadership crisis over the years.
