South African President, Ramaphosa, tests positive for Covid-19
Berlin, Dec 13, (dpa/GNA) – South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, is receiving treatment for mild symptoms after testing positive for Covid-19, the Presidency of South Africa said on Sunday evening.
Ramaphosa, who is fully vaccinated, started feeling unwell after leaving a state memorial service in Cape Town earlier on Sunday, according to a statement.
“The President is in good spirits but is being monitored by the South African Military Health Service of the South African National Defense Force,” the statement said.
Ramaphosa said his own infection serves as a caution to all people in the country to be vaccinated and remain vigilant against exposure, and stressed that vaccination remains the “best protection against severe illness and hospitalization.”
