Berlin, Dec 8, (dpa/GNA) – Former German Chancellor, Gerhard Schroeder, has given a full vote of confidence to Olaf Scholz, as his fellow Social Democrat takes over the chancellorship 16 years after Schroeder was voted out of office.
“Olaf Scholz will do it very, very well,” Schroeder told broadcaster Welt. “I have great confidence in him and I am for that reason happy.”
Schroeder, who headed a coalition of the SPD with the Greens, noted that Scholz would have the added difficulty of a third party, the pro-business Free Democrats (FDP), in his government.
But he expressed confidence that the new chancellor’s long political experience as “a person with patience and who will lead in a very communicative way” would stand him in good stead.
