NGO pays medical bills of 26 patients

Accra, Dec. 17, GNA- Passion for Needy, an NGO on Friday presented a cheque for GHS 25,000.00 to the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital to defray the debt of 26 poor patients.

The amount takes care of the 50 per cent of their bills while government takes up the remaining debt for the patients be discharged.

The gesture, according to the NGO was to put smiles on the faces of the beneficiaries as the world celebrate Christmas.

Mrs Janet Torgbor El- Aschkar, the Chairperson, Passion for Needy, presenting the cheque, said the gesture formed part of the NGO’s objective of supporting government effort in various sectors including health, education and social welfare.

Among the health facilities visited were Korle – Bu Teaching Hospital, Greater Accra Regional Hospital and the Manna Mission Hospital.

She said the Organisation had provided support in the form of drugs and medical equipment to the 37 Military Hospital and Shai OsuDoku Hospital among others.

She said the NGOs main activities since its operations in 2009 was the payment of medical bills for patients who were unable to pay for their bills after treatment for them to be discharged.

The NGO was set up by the late Prophet T. B. Joshua of the Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) to provide need based assistance to individuals, and communities in Ghana.

Mrs Grace Anyomi Chief Nursing Officer, Korle-bu Teaching Hospital Administration, thanked the NGO for the presentation, saying the gesture was in fulfillment of scripture “the needy will always be with us for support.”

She said the gesture was timely and appropriate because the patients would now be discharged to celebrate Christmas at their various homes.
