Akatsi (VR), Dec. 24, GNA— Some traders at the Akatsi Central Market have expressed dissatisfaction with the low patronage of livestock during Christmas.
Madam Juliana Agbezorli, a livestock dealer, said during last year at the same period sales were better for them.
Mr Vidza Gabriel, a goat and sheep seller, said prices of goats and other ruminants were on the rise due to the difficulty in rearing the animals.
“Thieves at times disturb our suppliers. They steal their livestock so they go through many challenges, hence the need to sell at a high price,” he said.
At the Akatsi Slaughter Market, a meat seller called Shaibu, complained about the slow pace of patronage of meat at their base.
On the prices, he said one kilogramme of meat sold GHC30, this year, which sold at the same price as last year, but the patronage was still low.”
However, some visitors at the market told the GNA some individuals have planned to form groups to buy the animals they preferred to buy directly from the farmers.
Dr Saviour Genueme, the Akatsi South Municipal Veterinary Officer, in an interaction with the GNA, cautioned meat processors to follow the needed hygienic requirements during the festive season.
