King Faisal Ends Kotoko’s unbeaten run

Kumasi, Dec. 05, GNA – Three goals from Zuberu Ibrahim of King Faisal at the Kumasi Sports Studium in their match day six encounter with Asante Kotoko was enough to end the unbeaten run of the Porcupines in the 2021/2022 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season.
The match ended 3-2 in favour of the “Insha Allah boys” with Kotoko’s Cameroonian import, George Mfegue scoring the two consolation goals for Asante Kotoko.

Zuberu, who was adjudged man of the match, fetch the first goal in the fourth minute after connecting a cross from the right side of attack.

Kotoko, however, reorganised and took control of the game but conceded the second goal against the run of play in the 18th minute.

Zuberu received another cross from the right side, calmly controlled the ball, before placing it beyond the reach of Kotoko’s goalkeeper, Razak Abalora.

Prior to that goal, however, Kotoko pulled one back in the 11th minute but was adjudged offside to the disappointment of their numerous fans at the stadium.

King Faisal managed to hold on to the two-goal lead despite Kotoko’s incessant pressure in search a goal before the break.

They, however, reduced the deficit just after two minutes into the second half through Mfegue who headed in after Faisal’s goalkeeper, Frank Boateng failed to grab a cross.

As Kotoko stepped up their game to find the equaliser, Zuberu scored his third goal of the day in the 68th minute after Kotoko’s sensational youngster, Isaac Oppong was dispossessed in his own half.

This forced the Porcupines to throw everything at the visitors and in the process scored their second goal through Mfegue who brilliantly connected a cross from Imoro Ibrahim from the left side.

Both teams created decent chances in the last 15 minutes but it was King Faisal who picked all the three points as the game ended 3-2 in their favour.

The win takes Faisal to the top of the league table with 13 points apiece with Asante Kotoko.
