GRIDCo rewards 34 employees for dedicated service

Takoradi, Dec. 21, GNA – The Ghana Grid Company Limited, (GRIDCo) has awarded 32 employees, who worked tirelessly to restore the 330kV Aboadze-Anwomaso transmission line, which collapsed after a Telecommunication mast fell on it.

They each received a certificate of Honour and cash prizes.

The unexpected event, which occurred on Nov. 13 , this year, caused power outages in the Ashanti Region, prompting the Asantehene to call for action to revert the situation.

Engineer Ebenezer Kofi Essienyi, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company said apart from the economic cost and inconveniences, the situation also caused instability in power transmission losses and ultimately the cash flow of the company.

The power challenge necessitated the deployment of some 34 staff with varied capacities to work to restore power by December 20, this year.

The CEO said with the tenacity to work hard and the unity of purpose exhibited by the team, as well as with the support of KEC International, electrical contractors, the situation was normalised and power was restored on Tuesday, December 07, 2021, before the deadline..

He said, the completion of the restoration works in good time brought great relief to all stakeholders, adding that, “businesses’ impact of this achievement has been enormous”.

Ambassador Kabral Blay Amihere, the Board Chairman of GRIDCo described the feat as a demonstration of loyalty and dedication to service.

He said the zealousness exhibited was an indication of the company’s mandate of efficient power transmission in a safe and reliable manner.

Ambassador Amihere said, “The Board and Management of GRIDCo is minded of the challenges we overcame to complete this enormous task… the efforts, the innovative ideas put in to deliver high quality and speed work for completing the restoration work are commendable.”

The Board Chairman added that the outstanding performance by employees was part of management’s key strategies of maintaining a successful business.

He pledged that the staff welfare would receive continued attention from management.

Engineer Abraham Doku, the Area Manager of Prestea, who was the team leader, noted how ‘turbulent ground’s work had become’ during the restoration process..

“Infact, we couldn’t just enter the forest until a bulldozer came and graded the place.and our people had to stay in a different village and commute as and when…but we raise God we made it even before time to bring joy to our cherished Consumers”.
