Goriko (U/E), Dec. 16, GNA – The Goriko Kindergarten (KG) and Primary School in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region has presented a citation to A-ensonga Hearts, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), for its contribution to quality education in the school.
The education-focused NGO renovated two classrooms each in the KG and Primary blocks and provided 53 dual desks, mats and stationery valued at GH¢20,000 to the school under its “The Furniture Project” initiative.
The project, supported with financial contributions by friends and members of the public, intends to supply furniture to deprived schools where pupils lay on bare floors to study in communities across the Upper East, Northern and Upper West Regions of Ghana.
The citation, presented to Ms Kenndicta A-ensonga Ajene, the Founder of the NGO, said: “Your efforts in supporting us, the Goriko KG/Primary School, with suitable desks to sit and write on, has created an indelible mark in our hearts.
“You did not stop there; rather, you extended your love, care and concern to us by renovating our classrooms,” the Management acknowledged.
Mr Samuel Amanze Billa, Headteacher of the school, who presented the citation, noted that the gesture created a conducive and attractive learning atmosphere.
This has put smiles on the faces of the pupils.
“We cannot pay you back all that you have invested in us, as students, staff and the community as a whole.
“We will live to remember you for decades for this kind gesture. Our earnest prayer is that the Almighty God will preserve, protect, promote and strengthen you in all your endeavours,” Management added.
The Headteacher further noted that the poor conditions in the school did not only impact negatively on academic activities but pupils often appeared dirty and unkempt as they lay on floors to learn.
He called on other organizations to emulate the gesture by A-ensonga Hearts to equip the school to churn out quality future leaders for the country.
Ms Ajene expressed gratitude to the management of the school for “Appreciating the little things that A-ensonga Hearts has done for the school as a contribution to improve on the quality of academic activities in the school.
“This citation will always serve as a call on me to remember that schools in rural and deprived communities in the country and, especially in Northern Ghana, need support in diverse forms to enable them to catch up with their colleagues in other parts of the country.”
Hitherto, the Goriko KG and Primary with a population of about 255 managed some pieces of furniture provided by the Global Education Partnership Grant (GPEG) in 2015.
That furniture could only seat a few pupils in the upper Primary while the rest sat on the bare floor to study.
