Nsuta Wassaw (W/R), Dec. 8, GNA— The Ghana Manganese Company Limited (GMCL) has launched a campaign to uphold the high safety standards in its operations.
The campaign dubbed “Never again” intend to ensure the safety of GMCL staff at the workplace and also eliminate any form of accidents that may occur.
Speaking at the function, the Managing Director of GMCL, Mr Jurgen Eijgendaal, indicated that this year 37 accident cases were recorded in the mine, hence the programme was initiated to affirm the company’s commitment to high safety standards.
He said ambassadors for the campaign would soon be inaugurated and visit all the departments within the company and sensitize the employees on the importance of health and safety practices to improve their daily lives and works.
Mr Eijgendaal said, “as human beings, accidents can happen but that should not become a normal practice so we would fight against so our staff should be vigilant at work.”
“As an employer, our employees going about their duty safely is the company’s priority. We will, therefore, continue to introduce measures at the mining site to ensure the well-being of our workers” the Managing Director added.
The General Manager of the company, Mr Joseph Ampong, emphasized that “out of the total accident cases recorded one was fatal. This should not happen again, we have to come to work safely and return home the same.”
He pointed out that frequent accidents in a Mine reduced productivity and also affected reputation.
The Chief Financial Officer of the company, Mr Joseph Intsiful, said as GMCL go on to increase its effort at maintaining precautionary health and safety measures within the workplace, the staff should adhere to the rules and regulations governing their operations.
