Dormaa-Ahenkro, (B/R), Dec. 12, GNA – Residents along the Ghana-Cote D’Ivoire borders in the Dormaa Central Municipality have been cautioned against collecting monies from foreigners to help them to enter Ghana through unapproved routes in the area.
Mr Seth Broni Tagborloh, the Dormaa Central Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), expressed worry that some residents of Kofibadukrom and Gonokrom, border towns in the area, extorted money, accepted and assisted foreigners to enter the country.
He said the unpatriotic practice was risky, saying that could expose the country to unnecessary dangers and terrorist attacks.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Bono region, Mr Tagborloh expressed concern about the porous nature of the borders in the area and appealed to security agencies to improve visibility and deepen border patrols.
On measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the municipality, the NCCE Director called security agencies to intensify enforcement of government restrictions and COVID-19 protocols in the border communities.
He expressed concern about people’s gross disregard for the health safety protocols as well as their unwillingness to take the COVID-19 vaccine due to myths, misconceptions and misinformation about the pandemic.
“These have largely contributed to low patronage of the vaccination exercise in the municipality,” a situation, he added could trigger the spread of the viral disease in the area.
Mr Tagborloh stressed the need for the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to re-strategise, review and repackage information on the COVID-19 to help diffuse such unfounded myths and theories surrounding the pandemic.
He said the NCCE, in the area, had intensified public education to create awareness on the need for the populace to take the COVID-19 vaccines to protect themselves and the people around them also augmenting the government’s efforts to flatten the nation’s COVID-19 curve.
Mr Tagborloh, therefore, advised people in the area to also contribute to the fight against the spread of the pandemic availing themselves to take the vaccine.
