Fijai (WR), Dec. 14, GNA – Cyber Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that seeks to train young people in the digital space, has organized a symposium to equip young girls within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis with knowledge and hands-on practice in Information Technology (IT).
Mr Samuel Afotey Laryea, a Software Engineer with the Organization, in an interview with GNA, said the core mandate of the organization was to help bridge the unemployment gap by training girls to have an interest in the digital world.
He said with advances in technology, it was imperative to encourage young people, especially girls, to take advantage of the new skills in technology to create jobs for themselves and others.
He said Cyber Ghana was offering training to people in the assembling of drones, certified hacking, digital forensics and other cyber-related skills in its six laboratories across the country.
Mr Laryea expressed the hope that equipping the girls with such skills would influence their choice of programmes of study at the tertiary level.
“Our research shows that we need to start giving this kind of skills to students at the Junior and Senior High School levels such that by the time they get to the university, they already know what they want to specialize in,” he stressed.
He commended the Heads of Senior High Schools for embracing the establishment of Cyber Clubs in their respective schools and encouraged students to join the club for their good.
Mr Laryea said financial constraints were a major challenge to the project and called on stakeholders to invest in technology since the world revolved around technological tools for development.
Some of the participants underscored the importance of the knowledge imparted to them, which they said would be put to good use.
“The world is changing with the times and so it is important to get equipped with such knowledge,” they said.
