Sefwi Bodi (WN/R), Dec. 14, GNA— Cocoa farmers in the Bodi and Jauboso communities of the Western North Region have been advised to allow officials of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) to cut down their dying cocoa trees affected by the Black pod cocoa disease.
This, according to Pastor Paul Kojo Mahama, Sefwi- Bodi, and Bodi District Pastor of the Church of Pentecost, would help boost cocoa production in the area.
He gave the advice during an annual thanksgiving service.
He said the infection of cocoa farms by the black pod disease had affected incomes and the living conditions of cocoa farmers in the area.
He appealed to the COCOBOD to pay the right compensation to the affected farmers to cushion them.
On his part, Mr Addai Appiah, the Bodi District Officer of Ghana Cocoa Board, said the only solution to the black pod disease was to cut down the affected trees.
He assured the cocoa farmers of support, including payment of compensations.
