Broekrom Assemblyman appeals for reconstruction of bridge

Broekrom (W/R), Dec. 18, GNA – Mr Prince Kobina Abakrow, the Assembly Member of Broekrom Electoral Area in the Ahanta West Municipality, has appealed to the Ghana Highway Authority to fix the only bridge at Broekrom near Cape Three Points in the Western Region.

The bridge connects Charene to Akwidaa through to Cape Three Points.

It got damaged some few days ago leading to 13 communities being cut off from the rest of the Ahanta-West Municipality.

Mr Abakrow, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Broekrom, explained that a few days ago a tipper truck, loaded with stone chippings to Akwidaa, was involved in an accident on the bridge.

During the process of towing the vehicle, the bridge got damaged making it unmotorable and forcing commuters to hire the services of motorbikes to embark on their journey.

He said communities had also informed the Western Regional Minister about the deplorable nature of the road from Cape Three Points to Sankore but no action had been taken.

He said they were usually informed that the road had been awarded on contract yet no contractor had been seen on the 24-kilometre stretch.

Cape Three Points was noted for oil and gas exploration and the issue was affecting the movement of goods and services, thereby crippling the local economy.

Meanwhile, officials from the Ghana Highway Authority from Accra and Takoradi have visited the broken bridge site to ascertain the damage.

They promised to erect a temporal bridge by Monday, December 20, as an interim measure to mitigate the suffering of the people.
