Akatsi (VR), Dec. 10, GNA-Mr Martin Kofitsey Nyahe, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Akatsi South in the Volta Region, has appealed to the
Police Administration in the Region to transfer more personnel to the area.
He said the area was fast-growing and there was the need to increase police presence to maintain law and order.
Mr Nyahe, who is also the Chairman of the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), made the request after the Regional Police Command paid a working visit to his office at Akatsi to assess the security situation in the area ahead of Christmas.
The team was led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr Edward Oduro-Kwateng, Volta Regional Police Commander.
Mr Nyahe stated that his outfit would soon begin using a new police station built some years ago at Wute, a community within Akatsi South, which would require more officers in carrying out security activities effectively.
He complained about the ‘long stay’ of some police officers in the area, which he said ought to be looked at.
“I must say some of these officers are still doing well but some others also need to be transferred if we want the citizenry to trust the system,” he said.
Mr Nyahe further commended the new Municipal Police Commander for always engaging the citizenry on the importance of the Police-Civilian relationship in ensuring peaceful coexistence among the populace.
Mr Banini Dzorgbenyuie, the Municipal Coordinating Director of the Assembly, on his part, called for more effective enforcement of law and order to check the disregard for simple directives by the authorities in the area.
Mr Oduro-Kwateng, on his part, gave the assurance that the Police would provide adequate security to the area.
The visiting team included Chief Superintendent Felix Anyidoho, the Regional Crime Officer and Chief Superintendent Opare Addo, Divisional Commander, Sogakope.
