Agona Swedru, Dec 25, GNA— The Agona West Municipal Assembly has instituted a taskforce to clamp down on school children engaged in ‘Okada’ and ‘Pragyia’ business in the Municipality.
According to the Assembly, it had become necessary to reduce truancy among school children and the under-aged and also torestall the rampant road accidents in the area.
The ban was contained in a resolution, adopted by the executive committee of the Assembly and signed by Mr Evans Onomah Coleman, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Agona West at its end of year meeting at Swedru. The ban takes immediate effect.
He said numerous reports reaching the Assembly, indicated that some school children and the under-aged were causing a lot of mayhem with the Okada and Pragyia motorbikes, hence the Assembly’s intervention to forestall sanity and also reduce the rampant road accidents.
The MCE said the Assembly had taken measures to decongest the Swedru township and would soon relocate
auto- mechanics to the artisan village .
He said the Assembly was determined to move the auto mechanics, scattered in the Swedru township and roadsides, to bring sanity to the Municipal capital.
On revenue mobilisation, he said action will be expedited to cede revenue collection to the zonal councils to make them more relevant in local governance.
He said to streamline the construction of structures, management of zonal councils must collaborate effectively with Assembly members to sensitize the general public on the need to acquire building permits before putting up buildings..
Mr Coleman said the Assembly had decided that 50 per cent of the pay-as-you- dump proceeds should be given to electoral areas to help it manage sanitation and other related activities .
This is however subject to good performance and prompt acquittal of the monies released.
Meanwhile, the Assembly members have approved the 2022 budget expenditure and fee fixing as mandated by the local government, Act 936 .
The statement urged store operators, shop owners and Landlords to pay their rates and fees in good time to avert the payment of penalty, as stipulated by the local government ACT 936, 2016.
