African swine fever persists, Veterinary Services reminds pork consumers

Sunyani (B/R), Dec. 24, GNA – Dr Donald Joachin Darko, the Bono Regional Veterinary Officer, has alerted pork consumers to be watchful of African swine fever during Christmas.

He said although there were measures in place to ensure that meat produced for public consumption was wholesome and healthy, there was the need for meat consumers to buy from a good sanitary environment.

Dr Asare said inspectors had been assigned to all slaughterhouses and public meat joints to check and ensure that meat in the markets was healthy for human consumption in the season.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Dr Darko gave the assurance that all unwholesome meat in the markets and slaughter houses would be traced and destroyed for public good and safety.

“Live animals identified to contain any form of disease would be seized and destroyed as well,” he said.
