Fuveme (VR), Nov. 17, GNA – Mrs Judith Akorli, a 38-year-old teacher at Fuveme Basic school in the Anloga District of the Volta region, has appealed for support due to the destruction of her three-bedroom apartment by the tidal waves.
She currently resides at Atiteti with friends, some metres away from Fuveme due to the situation she encountered.
Narrating her ordeal to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during a tour to the area on the side-lines of the recent disaster that rendered thousands homeless and properties destroyed, Mrs Akorli, a Kindergarten teacher, recalled, in 2015 a similar disaster that occurred in the area took away her entire building containing room furniture, cooking utensils, and other valuables.
“My house was located within the Fuveme main town when the disaster struck, leaving some other structures severely destroyed. My school was not spared at all, this is the third location of this school as a result of the disaster,” she said.
Mrs Akorli, a native of Fuveme, indicated she started teaching in the community as a community teaching assistant from 2006 to 2013 before later posted as a professional teacher till date.
Her present challenge, according to her, was the struggles she endured in walking from Atiteti to Fuveme on a daily basis to teach.
“Living here is sacrificial, we go through many difficulties when these things occur, so the authorities must shift every needed attention to us for our safety,” she lamented.
Checks by the GNA at the Fuveme Basic School also revealed that the school currently shares only two classrooms for teaching and learning due to the recent destruction of the tidal wave.
Many houses were also hit by the disaster where the affected victims most of whom are fisherfolks, farmers, and traders are currently seeking refuge with friends and relations.
However, some affected communities around the southern sector, have since been receiving some relief items from the government, groups, and individuals.
The disaster, which occurred on Sunday, November 7, was said to be one of the hardest.
