Sunyani, Nov. 17, GNA – Miss Seronita Asare-Yeboah Gyebuaa, a manufacturer has suggested the need for the National Service Scheme (NSS) to postgraduates, particularly those from the Technical Universities to the private sector unrequested.
She has therefore appealed to the Board and Management of the NSS to make it a policy for a reasonable number of such graduates to do the mandatory national service with the private sector industries and be absorbed by the beneficiary companies on completion of the national service.
According to Miss Gyebuaa, who is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of McKenzie Ghana Limited, a Sunyani-based clothing manufacturing company that would contribute greatly to reducing the burden of graduate unemployment contributing to the drawbacks of accelerated and stable growth of the national economy.
“The government must graciously pay their allowances for them to do the compulsory national service with us so that we also employ them afterward and pay them as a condition or a contract with the government”, she said.
Miss Gyebuaa made the suggestion when she was speaking in a post-budget interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani.
Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning read the budget to Parliament on Wednesday.
She said the private companies were naturally the entities with the potentials and capacity to absorb a greater percentage of the unemployed Ghanaians, but the government must provide the enabling environment to promote their businesses.
Miss Gyebuaa stated doing the national service with the private sector would enable them to acquire technical skills with practical knowledge on the job.
In that sense, it would also be easier for some reasonable number, if not most of them to go into self-employment so that they can also employ others, she added.
