NHIS calls on service providers to support clients

Accra, Nov. 16, GNA – The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has called on healthcare providers to support clients of the Scheme whenever they visit their facilities and give them the maximum care.

Mr Bernard Brown, the Greater Accra Regional Director of the NHIS, who made the call, said: “Healthcare providers have a role to play towards the achievement of the universal health coverage”.

He said this after a float the NHIS embarked on as part of its Annual Week Celebration to sensitise the public on the need to register with the Scheme.

Mr Brown enumerated other activities to mark the week, which include the launch of customer service desk at the Princes Marie Louis Children’s Hospital to help customers address challenges concerning the Scheme.

He said as part of the celebration, a registration point had been set up at New Town in Accra for new members to register, adding that members could use the card right after the registration because it had waived off the one month moratorium.

Old customers with expired cards can renew them on their mobile phones with the short code *929# and follow the instructions, stressing the need to link the card with the National Identification Card.

“The Insurance Scheme does not only cover paracetamol as alleged by some people but covers more than 500 medications,” Mr Brown said.

He mentioned the new additions to the benefit packages to include childhood cancers and family planning methods.
