Tema, Nov 11, GNA – Mr Prince Bawuah, District Disease Control Officer of Ada East District has said that the Moderna mass vaccination was ongoing smoothly in the district.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Ada, Mr Bawuah said that about 4,790 persons were expected to be vaccinated in eleven designated centres in Ada East.
The centres are: Ada Health Centre, Kasseh Health Centre, Pediatorkope Health Centre, Ada East District Hospital, Pute CHPS Compound, Adedetsekope CHPS Compound, Agorkpo CHPS Compound, Dogo CHPS Compound, Togbloku CHPS Compound, Tamatoku CHPS Compound and Fantevi CHPS Compound.
Mr Bawuah said 30 health workers had been deployed to administer the Moderna vaccine, which started from November 5 to November 12 saying that the number of days would be extended if more people showed up.
“We are to end the vaccination on November 12, but will extend the days if there are vaccines left, so we’ll do it till the last dose is deployed,” he added.
He said patronage had been slow as some people still claim they do not believe the COVID-19 diseases existed, adding that he believed that, vaccine hesitancy was one of the reasons for the low patronage.
He said only four per cent of people have received the vaccination as at day four of the mass vaccination exercise in the district, and called on the media to help increase awareness of the virus in the district.
“If they don’t believe that the diseases existed, they will not embrace the interventions,” he said.
