Kpone, Nov. 20, GNA – The Non-Formal Education Division of the Kpone- Katamanso Municipal Assembly (KKMA) has organised a day’s training in the production of beauty products for 40 women in the municipality.
The training, in collaboration with ‘Hope for the Season Foundation,’ a non-governmental organisation; brought together apprentices and hairdressers from the Ghana Hairdressers and Beauticians Association (GHABA) in Kpone.
The participants received in-depth practical training on the production of shampoos, hair conditioners, bathing gels, and hair pomade among others.
Mr Zac Abrahams, Director at the Non-Formal Education Division for Kpone-Katamanso said the free training was organised to provide livelihood skills for women as well as empower them to support themselves and their families.
Mr Abrahams said urged participants to apply the skills acquired to their businesses to ensure they expanded their operations to earn appreciable incomes.
Ms Nanna Boatmaa Agyeman Danso, Founder of Hope for the Season Foundation on her part said, the foundation decided to collaborate with the Non-Formal Education Department of the Assembly to reach out to as many people as possible, to provide them with the needed skills that would help reduce unemployment among the youth.
“We believe that this training will go a long way to make some of them entrepreneurs and reduce the poverty rate in the municipality,” she said.
The KKMA Culture Department took the opportunity to perform a drama on suicide to educate the participants on some of the causes of suicidal feelings, symptoms, and how to prevent its occurrence.
Ms Sandra Boison, Kpone-Katamanso Cultural Director, discussing the drama with participants advised them to watch out for some of the causes that could lead to suicidal tendencies.
This, she said included mental health problems, bullying or discrimination, different types of abuse such as domestic violence, sexual or physical abuse, as well as losing a loved one.
“We all need to be alert on the above causes, become each other’s keeper, and seek counselling from mental health professionals when we are troubled or find our neighbour showing such symptoms to curb the high suicide occurrences,” she said.
