Kedzikope (V/R), Nov. 11, GNA – Some displaced residents of Kedzikope in the Keta Municipality will be enjoying hot meals until the situation in their homes normalises.
The about 70 people who currently have the uncompleted Kedzikope Community Centre as their new home after their homes got flooded by Sunday dawn’s tidal waves attacks, had their first hot meal served to them on Tuesday evening.
Mr Godknows Bleboo, Keta Municipal Coordinator, National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), who delivered the packs of rice through the Assembly member for the area said, the meals were coming from a philanthropist who was moved by the plight of the victims.
He explained the meals covered only displaced persons keeping up at the holding centre and did not include those staying with friends and families, saying they anticipated that “cooking will be a problem for them,” hence the initiative.
Mr Bleboo said he was in talks with the Wakati Beach (formerly Emancipation Beach Camp, Keta) owner, who is the sponsor, to serve the victims with breakfast and dinner daily until the flood waters were dried up and their homes were safe to return to.
Recipients were grateful to the philanthropist for thinking about them in their time of need and asked for God’s blessings on him.
One of them, Ms Winner Bumegbe (a new senior high school graduate) who at the time the meal was delivered had gone for ‘kenkey and fish’, said she was unaware they would be served with food and thanked God for the intervention, which she described as thoughtful and a great relief “considering our present situation.”
The Assembly member for the area, Mr Amenyo Quashigah was happy for the support of his people and called on others touched by the situation to come to their aid.
At the time the GNA was leaving the holding centre, few had gone inside to lie under their bed nets to avoid mosquito bites, while majority without mosquito nets gathered around a smoke coming from a local herb believed to have the potency to repel mosquitoes.
Those sitting outside had another reason, as a woman told the GNA “there’s just this bulb here serving the whole building and because we need light, we’re forced to sit outside till late.”
