Glovo starts operations in Kumasi, poised to create jobs

Accra Nov 22, GNA – An international multi-category delivery outfit, Glovo, has started operations in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, hoping to create job opportunities for Small and Medium Enterprise (SME).

Ms Pearlyn Budu, General Manager of Glovo Ghana, said taking the business to the Ashanti Region was in line with the Company’s vision of giving everyone easy access to anything in their cities through the provision of faster and more convenient delivery service to customers.

Kumasi is the third city hosting Glovo after the Company launched its operations in March this year in Accra and Tema.

Ms Badu said the extension of services to Kumasi would afford SMEs in the Ashanti region the opportunity to expand their services, thereby creating job opportunities for the youth.

“…Over 98 per cent of our partners are SMEs. In Accra alone, we have over 1,400 partners, including pharmacies, groceries, electronics and restaurants. We are also gradually increasing the use of local materials in our operations as part of our aim to increase revenue for local artisans in the industry.

“We are thrilled to have a presence in another city apart from Accra and Tema within a short period of operations in Ghana. We believe this expansion will allow us to provide the fastest and most convenient service to the people of Kumasi” she said.

The General Manager said Glovo’s services, which was technology-driven promoted digitalisation as it provided users with options to make payments through several methods such as Mobile Money, Cash, and Direct debit cards.

She said Glovo users were provided with access to different categories to choose from such as restaurants, supermarkets, drinks, and package delivery.

Ms Badu said it also had the “Anything” category, which allowed “users to run errands from the comfort of their location. Users can also leave notes or a list of the items that they need, and Glovo couriers will deliver them.

“Also, in some locations, the app has the ‘Shops & Gifts’ category, which allows users to shop directly from various stores.”

She said on the Glovo app, orders could be made to be received on-demand or scheduled to be received on a date and time that was more convenient for the user.
