Accra, Nov. 18.GNA – The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has officially unveiled 10 new national title belts in their bid to motivate local boxers and boost local boxing competitions.
The GBA on Thursday launched the 10 newly acquired titles as well as the unveiling of the brand-new car for the association and the association’s official website.
Speaking at the launch at the Bukom Boxing Arena, Mr. Abraham Kotei Neequaye, President of the GBA said this initiative was geared towards efforts in reviving professional boxing in Ghana.
“Today marks a special day in my life as the GBA President for a simple reason that we are here to execute an important plan to reshape and revive professional boxing in Ghana.
“You would agree with me that these three critical components are very essential to the realization of our vision and purpose of pro-boxing in Ghana. My utmost agenda in the realization of my vision is to consider the welfare of active boxers and their trainers and coaches,” he said.
Mr. Neequaye added that he was poised in the creation of an effective administrative setup that enables effective communication among stakeholders.
He announced that there would be a launch of a new boxing league in the coming weeks to help provide boxers with enough competitions to keep boxers in shape.
Mr. Nii Lante Vanderpuye, a former Youth and Sports Minister and the Member of Parliament for Odododiodio Constituency, in his address at the launch stressed the need to prioritize the development of boxing which had lots to offer the country.
He urged boxers, trainers, and coaches to be disciplined in their respective endeavours to help push the sports to the next level.
“It is about time we bring some discipline to the sport of boxing. So, this particular event is to open the door for us to create future world champions but we can only achieve that if we are disciplined,” he said.
