Koforidua, Nov 15, GNA – Over 55,000 candidates are taking part in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) organised in the 33 districts of the Eastern Region.
The figure comprises 27,393 girls and 28,491 boys sitting for the examination in 216 centres in the region.
As of 0600 hours, when GNA visited some Junior High Schools, the candidates were with their teachers who were giving them some words of encouragement and what was expected of them at the examination centres.
Whiles, some schools arranged for buses to take their candidates to their respective examination centres, others moved in groups, heading towards their centres.
Around 0900 hours when GNA visited the Koforidua Secondary Technical School which is one of the centres, the candidates had already begun the first paper, Social studies.
It was gathered that all 778 candidates in the two centres in the school were present and taking their first paper.
Earlier, some of the candidates who spoke with GNA were confident they would come out with good grades to enable them to take advantage of the free SHS policy.
About 571, 894 candidates are writing the 2021 BECE beginning from Monday, November 15 to Friday, November 19 in 2,158 centres countrywide.
