CCCFS wants government to hasten support for tidal waves victims

Kumasi, Nov. 14, GNA – The Centre for Climate Change and Food Security (CCCFS) is urging government to hasten the process of mobilising support for victims of storm surge in the Volta Region.

It said it was not enthused by the plodding response from the government in addressing the pressing humanitarian crises that had befallen the victims.

A statement issued by CCCFS in Kumasi acknowledged resource constraint on the part of government, but worried about the seeming haziness in the mobilisation drive towards alleviation of the plight of affected communities.

The statement signed by its Director of Research, Mr. Issifu Sulemana, implored the government to create a fund for Ghanaians to contribute to support the victims.

“It is also surprising to us that until now the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has not commented on the issue. In a crisis such as this, we expect the President to lead in condoling with the victims,” part of the statement read.

It further called on all stakeholders to intensify education on climate change, stressing the need for a National Climate Change Policy to reflect the realities of the time.

“While we wait for government’s commitment on building a sea defence wall, which in our opinion, is a medium-term solution, to materialise, the victims require an urgent assistance,” the statement concluded.
