Bolgatanga, Nov. 21, GNA – A man identified only as Kwakye has died while other passengers travelling in a Mercedes Sprinter bus, along the Kugri-Avorsum road in the Garu District, Upper East Region, sustained injuries when three suspected armed robbers attacked them.
The Public Affairs Officer of the Upper East Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) David Fianko-Okyere who disclosed this in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga, said the three suspected armed robbers each wielded AK 47 guns and machetes, and made away with unspecified amounts of money and mobile phones from their victims.
Investigation according to the Police the deceased sustained an injury and was rushed to the Garu Presbyterian Health Centre, where he died while receiving medical attention, “The body has been conveyed to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.”
He said the Crime Scene Management Team had also visited the robbery scene to gather evidential materials for the purpose of investigation.
Owing to the attack, the Garu District Police Command has launched a special anti-robbery operation to hunt down the three suspected armed robbers.
ASP Fianko-Okyere said the Police administration had also directed the Garu Police Command to intensify patrols on market days and passenger escorts within the District and beyond to safeguard traders and other commuters.
“We want to assure the public of our resolve to weed out armed gangs in our communities to ensure socio-economic activities are carried out in a peaceful and safe society,” ASP Fianko-Okyere said.
