Kadjebi (O/R), Nov 23, GNA – A total of 6,542 people comprising 2,159 males and 4,383 females are currently benefiting from the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) in the Kadjebi District.
The figure covered a total of 2,037 beneficiary households benefiting from the social intervention programme within the district.
This was part of the 73rd and 74th cycle of disbursement under the LEAP programme.
Mr. Wilson Agbanyo, Kadjebi District Chief Executive (DCE) said this at the Second Ordinary Meeting of the Second Session of the Kadjebi District Assembly at Kadjebi in the Oti Region.
He said the amount allocated for each of the cycles was GH?174,406.00 and that disbursement was on-going in the district.
He said the management of the assembly was still making follow-ups to the Ministry of Gender and Social Protection to seek approval for expansion of the programme in the District to cover additional beneficiaries.
The DCE said an additional Ambulance was allocated to the district to augment the work of the current Ambulance since health is wealth, and a “timely health saves lives”.
He said access to quality healthcare remained a topmost priority of the government as was evidencee by the wide array of policy interventions to provide infrastructure across the country.
Mr. Agbanyo said the District was also a recipient of the Agenda 111 (District Hospital) project and that preparations were far advanced for smooth take off of the project.
On security, he said the district was calm and peaceful, except for an intelligence gathered by the security agencies relating to the imminent security threat by the Western Togoland Secessionist group, which was closely monitored.
The DCE, appealed to the residents of the district to be security conscious and report any suspicious characters to the security agencies.
He said the District Security Council (DISEC) was on the high alert to coil any unforeseen disturbances that might breach the peace of the district.
On education, Mr. Agbanyo said the assembly had procured 700 dual desks for distribution to schools within the district.
He acknowledged the tireless efforts by stakeholders including the assembly towards improving the quality of education in the district.
Mr. Cephas Awumee Amenyitor, the Assembly member for Dodo-Amanfrom South Electoral Area called on the assembly to help halt the massive encroachment of State Hospital and Police Station lands at Dodo-Amanfrom.
He said the state at which the encroachers were building on the lands was gigantic and if the assembly failed to act swiftly, then the state would have no land to develop in the future.
The boundary dispute between Ghana and Togo at Fotoryeye, a farming community near Ampeyo in the Kadjebi District was also brought to the attention of the assembly for action.
