Nkoranza South Assembly members reject President’s Nominee for MCE

Nkoranza (BE/R), Oct. 06, GNA – The Assembly Members of Nkoranza South Municipality comprising 29 elected and 13 appointees have rejected Madam Diana Attaa Kissiwaa, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo’s Nominee for the Municipal Chief Executive’s (MCE’s) position.

In an election conducted and supervised by the Municipal Office of the Electoral Commission at Nkoranza in the Bono East Region, Madam Kissiwaa polled 20 that represented 47.62 per cent as against 22 which was 52.38 per cent of the valid votes cast by the 42 Assembly members.

Mr. Kwasi Adu Gyan, the Regional Minister, had earlier reminded the Assembly members to prioritise the progress of the Municipality by confirming the nominee, since he added that was the main reasons why President Akufo-Addo nominated her.

Mr. Adu Gyan said socio-economic development had no partisan colours but only thrived on unity, saying the Assembly Members failure to confirm the nominee was a drawback of the political, social and economic advancement of the Municipality.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) observed later a section of the people who had thronged the precincts of the Assembly premises were jubilating because of the nominee’s disapproval by the Assembly members.

A number of them who spoke to the GNA on condition of anonymity alleged she “is a dictator”, saying that contributed greatly to the New Patriotic Party’s loss of both the Nkoranza North and South parliamentary seats to the opposition National Democratic Congress in the Election 2020.
